Our History

1977

Laying the Foundations of a Legend

Birth of a visionary club. Driven by passionate local runners, the Club Athlétique Montreux was born. Their ambition was to create an unmissable mountain race, firmly anchoring the passion for effort in the heart of the Riviera.

Experience the Very First Ascent

Montreux-Les Paccots race. The kickoff was given with a demanding 17 km course. Colombian Domingo Tibaduiza claimed a prestigious victory there. After three editions, constraints related to highway construction pushed the committee to be bold.

Discover an Iconic Race

The birth of La Classique. President Francis Brülhart and his team imposed their vision: connecting the city of Montreux to the summit of Rochers-de-Naye. This 18.4 km challenge with 1,760 m of positive elevation gain immediately became a classic of the discipline.

Get Started in Mountain Running

To open the mountain to a wider audience, the committee created La Cadette, a compact format starting from Caux (9.2 km), ideal for an introduction to verticality against a grandiose Alpine panorama.

Dare the Alliance of Earth and Sky

The event opened up to free flight with the introduction of the Hike and Fly format. After a timed ascent of 950 m D+ from Caux, the "flying mountaineers" deployed their sails at Rochers-de-Naye to reach Villeneuve, thus merging physical endurance and piloting precision.

Face Pure Verticality

Under the leadership of President Jean-Luc Terrettaz, the organization inaugurated a raw 5.5 km ascent with 970 m of positive elevation gain from Caux. This wild track starting from Caux established itself as a concentrate of power for lovers of uncompromising elevation gain. This was the arrival of La Directissime.

Experience the Marathon Adventure

To celebrate the 45th anniversary of La Classique, the team transformed the event into two days of sporting festivities. This historic milestone was marked by the birth of the Marathon (42 km, 3000 m D+), an endurance race that propelled the Montreux-Les Rochers-de-Naye races into the world of trail running and offered an extraordinary vertical adventure.
